August is when we stop and look at what grew.
Lammas — the first harvest festival, falling around 1st August — is the traditional moment to bring in what has ripened. In the agricultural calendar, this is the grain harvest: the fields that were planted in spring, tended through summer, now full and ready. In our art witch calendar, the harvest is everything we have made, learned, grown into, and changed through since January.
This month’s technique is one I created for my Wheel of the Year grimoire course and loved so much I wanted to bring it into the zine family. It’s called the Gratitude Sandwich — a folded mini book where your gratitudes become the ingredients, layered between two slices of everything you’ve been. I’ll explain it fully on page 10, but I’ll say now: it’s one of my favourite things I’ve ever made in my own practice.
“Gratitude is not a performance. It is the honest recognition of what actually grew.”
We’re also working with Jera this month — the rune of harvest, cycles, and the rewards of patient effort. Jera has no quick fix energy. It is the rune that says: you did the work, and now, in its own time, comes the return. There’s something deeply comforting about that.
Welcome to Issue 11. Let’s bring in the harvest.
